The POMA Group has more than a hundred years' expertise in cable transportation, and cable has always been our line of business.

The company AGUDIO, now POMA ITALIA, was established in 1860 by the engineer Tommaso Agudio, a widely respected technician who decided to specialise in the design of cable-propelled lifting and transportation devices.
In a very short time he achieved a reputation based on the ingenuity and boldness of several of his inventions. He is one of the fathers of cable transportation in the modern era. He built the first passenger transportation funiculars, then moved on to manufacturing passenger elevators, goods elevators, cable conveyors for goods transportation and finally cable cars.

Established in 1936, POMA is now the world's premier manufacturer of cable transportation systems, thanks to our extensive and diverse range, our geographical presence, our extensive customer portfolio (more than 7,700 customers in 73 countries worldwide), and the quality and performance of our equipment.

At the POMA Group we concentrate on a single area of expertise which we have gained in all aspects of cable transportation of people, goods and materials, in the fields of industry, urban transportation, tourism, leisure parks and winter sports.

Since the company was founded, POMA has always been a key international player, and today we have built up a solid international network giving us a worldwide presence in the form of marketing and production subsidiaries, licensees and agents. Today, the POMA Group employs more than 750 staff worldwide.

POMA systems alone transport almost one billion people each year, and if all the cableways built by POMA were placed end to end they would easily stretch from PARIS to LOS-ANGELES.
Our cableways have a total transportation capacity of more than 6.25 million passengers / hour, equivalent to the population of France every 10 hours 10 minutes !
