More about

The project

Internationally known for producing the capsules of the big wheels in London, Hong Kong and Las Vegas, the French expert POMA was called on again to design, produce and assemble the 48 capsules of the Dubai observation wheel.

Located 500 metres from the marina coastline on Bluewaters Island, the observation wheel will offer a panoramic view of the Dubai landscape from a height of 250 m, the new world record.

In order to meet the very demanding customer requirements and ensure the successful completion of such a large-scale project, particular attention was paid to the design of carriers.

Its agile organisation, the experience of its teams, and constant communication with the customer, enabled POMA to maintain control over the entire value chain of these two projects, from the commercial phase right through to delivery of the capsules on site. This expertise once again endorses customers’ confidence in POMA’s ability to carry out these monumental projects.
Finally, the project was driven by a single, common goal: to offer an extraordinary spectacle and a unique experience to the thousands of visitors expected each day.

POMA, innovation

The world’s largest

observation wheel

An agile

organisation

As the project required a tight execution schedule, POMA deployed a team dedicated to this custom-built undertaking in record time, combining the expertise of the Group — POMA, SEMER, SACMI, SIGMA and POMA Beijing — with that of external specialists. Specific skills were thus brought together on a “project platform” for greater flexibility and communication between the various players involved. For example, two multicultural and multi-expert teams based in France worked daily with those of POMA Beijing and subcontractors from Italy, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates.

They talk about it

Ain Dubai

POMA has been in the big wheel market for many years. The London Eye was the first to demonstrate our ability to carry out complex projects, thanks to our agile organisation and command of technology. We continued to apply our skills to smaller wheels on a regular basis: Baku (Azerbaijan), Chicago, Hong Kong and more. Today, the observation wheels of Dubai and Shenzhen confirm POMA’s place in the amusement park industry.
