Inauguration of the Toulouse cable car,

A great success for Téléo!

Téléo, the longest urban cable car in France and Europe, was inaugurated in Toulouse on Friday, May 13, in the presence of the mayor and elected officials of the region.

The 3S urban cable car, designed and built by POMA, takes to the skies for 3 kilometers in remarkable silence, to offer a fast and eco-responsible mobility solution for the southern arc of the Toulouse metropolis.

On the weekend of its opening, 60,000 Toulouse residents came to be among the first to take an exceptional trip over the pink city and the Garonne.

A cable car

VERY EXPECTED

Tisséo, the Greater Toulouse public transport authority, chose the POMA Group to provide an innovative and sustainable mobility solution to meet the needs of the southern part of the city. Despite the project being disrupted by the global pandemic, Téléo's cable cars will be taking off this friday 13 may. Drawing on its unrivalled know-how, POMA is proud to have led the design and implementation of this pivotal project involving several local stakeholders. Téléo is a clean, energy-efficient and extraordinarily silent mode of transport. It blends in with its environment, reducing road traffic and related nuisances.

The world leader in cable transportation, POMA, is thus developing its range of urban aerial tramways in France, after many successful projects worldwide.

Connection of

3 MAJOR AREAS OF ACTIVITY

Téléo aims to improve access to important facilities in the southern part of the Greater Toulouse area where several major activity hubs are located: Paul Sabatier University (30,000 students), Rangueil Hospital (200,000 medical consultations annually) and the Oncopole area (over 10,000 jobs).

The 2.7 kilometre-long route, comprising 3 stations in an elegant and understated architectural style, crosses over the Garonne river and connects to the existing transport system. As part of an intermodal infrastructure, Téléo will be supplemented on the east and west by express bus lines. A new 500-place park-and-ride car park was created near the Oncopole to promote optimum multi-mode transport.

Téléo cable cars run at a frequency of one every one-and-a-half minutes during rush hours, operating from 5.15 am to 12.30 am. 8,000 passengers per day are expected on the line.

A tailor-made response

TO THE CHALLENGES OF URBAN MOBILITY

Only 5 pylons to cross the 3 km route: the POMA urban cable car with 3S technology is also distinguished by its minimal land use. The integrity of the natural zones is preserved, since they will only be overflown. Téléo is also distinguished by its acoustic performances, its unique electric motorization is installed in the Paul Sabatier University station, and equipped with specific acoustic occultations.

The spacious 34-seat Symphony 3S cabins, designed by Pininfarina, offer a high level of travel comfort, while guaranteeing optimal accessibility for all passengers. A space is reserved for people with reduced mobility, whose access is facilitated by large sliding doors. Cyclists and their bikes are also welcome on board. In addition, each cabin is equipped with the same on-board equipment – dynamic information screens, audio announcements and a video protection system – as on the entire Toulouse public transport network.

As part of a 20-year maintenance contract, POMA works with Tisseo Voyageurs and Altiservice. Their additional expertise ensures Téléo's optimum availability and safety.

To remember:

The Téléo line is 3 kilometers long and connects Paul Sabatier University and the Oncopole in just 10 minutes, flying over the Garonne River. The first 3S urban cable car in France is a fast and reliable way to get around the Toulouse public transport network.

With Téléo, the city of Toulouse is committed to offering city dwellers an ever cleaner and more sustainable means of transportation. With 8,000 passengers expected per day, the Toulouse cable car will allow for the fluidity of traffic on the ground, thus reducing CO2 emissions.

Perfectly interconnected with the city’s transport network and designed to integrate optimally into its environment, France’s longest urban cable car is a technological jewel with multiple assets and a model of sustainable mobility for cities in France and around the world.

Opening of

the 6th Metrocable line

The city of Medellín opened Metrocable’s 6th line, “Line P” (Picacho), in the presence of the Colombian President, on 10 June.

This new gondola lift is connected directly to the metro line A and has 4 stations spread over a 2700 metre-long line, connecting the north-west of Medellín to its city centre, over 344 meters of difference in altitude.

The line is equipped with eco-friendly, decarbonised technology and the country’s first DirectDrive® motor: a silent energy-efficient motor. It is a genuine overhead tram with 130 Diamond gondolas to ensure constant capacity with 10 seats and 2 standing places to meet the demands of peak-time traffic.

The gondolas, like their stations and their subassemblies, were manufactured in the POMA Group’s factories in France; the line structures were built on site in Medellín.

About

THE PROJECT

The future of urban transport is a real social and environmental issue and is at the heart of ongoing discussions among communities. The pioneering city of Medellín was the first municipality to use a new urban mobility solution by integrating an overhead ropeway line into its network in 2004. Metrocable’s first line, “Line K”, which is connected to the metro, created a link between the inhabitants and the city centre. This new urban mobility, made possible by the new lines, has reinforced the social cohesion in local areas by connecting sectors that had long been isolated.

After the success of this first gondola lift, Medellín continued to develop the “proyecto de Ciudad” city project by adding 5 other lines to the network: line J (2007), line L (2010), line H (2016), line M (2019) and finally line P (2021).

Open 7 days a week, 19 hours a day, the Metrocable provides the inhabitants of Medellín with a safe, fast and efficient mode of transport between the city centre and its outskirts. The network of cable cars now stretches over 14 kilometres, directly connected to the different lines of the Medellín Metro by multimodal stations. Each year, more than 220 million people use the city's transport system, demonstrating a successful social inclusion model that offers a new quality of life to the city's residents through social connections and increasingly attractive neighbourhoods.

Thanks to this sustainable mobility solution and its proven energy efficiency, air pollution has been cut for the inhabitants of Medellín. This is because the extent of the Metrocable transport system is such that it contributes to the reduction of carbon emissions and improves air quality by offering an alternative to road traffic.

Back to the 80th edition of the

Domaine Skiable de France congress

Few days ago, the annual DSF congress took place. The edition was on “the mountain of tomorrow in France” theme. And welcomed the President of the organisation newly nominated

A congress focused at first on the opportunity to celebrate the 80 years of the organization and also on the election of Alexandre Maulin as new President who will take over from Pierre Lestas and on the renewal around the central theme “The Mountain of tomorrow”.

An expected election

AND A DESIRE FOR INNOVATION

The young Savoyard President was elected unanimously by the General Assembly of “Domaines Skiables de France” and will succeed Pierre Lestas.
Pascal Tournier will be his Deputy President. Alongside a renewed team, he is ready to meet the challenges of a mature ski market in France : establish a stable economic model for all operators, work at a rebalancing of the regulation which limits the economic development of ski resorts and act more on the development of new customers.

Discussions and conferences allowed the participants to talk about investments and changes that are required to make the mountain accessible to all, in any season, and to be able to meet the climate challenge.

For POMA ropeways, major conference partner, it was an opportunity to meet all our French customers, who came in large numbers to visit our booth for this 80th edition.
