More about

The project

Simatai is a section of the Great Wall of China located about 120 km from the centre of Beijing, towards the city of Chengde.

Strategically located in the immediate vicinity of the most famous of the 7 wonders of the world, the Simatai gondola lift makes it easy for thousands of tourists to access the site all year round.

Created in 2013, it replaced an older fixed grip gondola lift dating from the 1980s on a similar route but covering a larger length.

On arrival, a ten-minute walk will take you to the open 5 km section of the Great Wall, which is linked to the Jinshanling section via a long suspended bridge.

The design of the stations has been designed to allow ideal integration. The station is inside buildings where the style and architecture are entirely made of stone, allowing it to blend in with the environment.
