More about

The project

The funicular railway, a pioneering 100% electric valley lift, is directly linked to the international high-speed train station of Bourg Saint Maurice, on which holidaymakers from all over Europe converge: many come from Paris on the TGV, while others have travelled from London on the Eurostar or Brussels and Amsterdam with Thalys.

For over 30 years now, the newly named Arcs Express funicular railway has been offering an eco-friendly alternative to reach the ski slopes in just 7 minutes. With more than 600,000 journeys per year, it is also used daily by local professionals, and is thus a model for the development of soft and sustainable mountain mobility. The “Arcs Express” offers a unique travel experience: spanning almost 3 km, the funicular railway offers travellers a fantastic view of the valley, thanks to its roof made entirely of glass and the new panoramic spaces at the front and rear of the trains.

The new trains are designed to the highest modern standards of comfort and meet the needs of users in all seasons by offering modular designs.

A 360° trip

A very enjoyable travel experience with new glass-roofed trains and, thanks to the driving station located in the centre of the cabin, the new panoramic spaces at the front and rear offer passengers exceptional views of the valley.

An eco-friendly
approach

A 100%-electric system that is part of the resort’s environmentally friendly approach, it is the first and only one to be linked to a railway station for access to the skiing area.

The Val Thorens resort estimated the carbon footprint to be 3 g/km of CO2 emissions for a journey from Paris to Bourg Saint Maurice by train + Funicular railway compared with 135 g/km for an equivalent journey by car and 168 g/km by plane.

Modern design

The Bourg Saint Maurice local council was also particularly attentive to the way the funicular railway would blend into its environment, endorsing its elegant design and refined LED lighting.

La Daille gondola lift

This new gondola lift replaces a historic POMA ropeway. The challenge was to create a system that met the stringent requirements of the STVI and would become an emblem of the resort. Symphony cabins, beautifully designed stations, a high capacity turnaround… These were all key factors behind the success of this Premium gondola lift.

More about

POMA, innovation

for the project

The look and comfort of the La Daille gondola lift are so popular that even pedestrians use it to get to the mountain restaurant! The excellent wind resistance of this system makes for easy operation and allows us to organise events with the Folie Douce with full peace of mind, in all weather conditions. This strategic gondola lift for Val d’Isère boosts the attractiveness of the hamlet of La Daille and has already inspired new projects…
