An APM, Automated People Mover, is a fully automatic system without drivers and usually moves along on a flat plane, which differentiates it from funicular railways. Unlike with automotive vehicles, the machinery and motor equipment are located remotely thanks to the rope. Thus, the APM is often described as “light metro” technology, in the sense that the infrastructure (viaduct, track structure, etc.) and installation are lighter and faster.

The city of Santo Domingo inaugurates its new urban aerial tramway line, the fastest in the world. The monocable system criss-crosses the sky over a 4.2-km stretch and serves four stations, offering a perfect soft mobility solution between the city centre and the suburbs.

A second urban cable car line has been inaugurated in Santo Domingo. The 4-kilometre cable car line connects the city centre and the western outskirts of the capital with the city's transport network. For the first time in the world, a cable car line is operating at a speed of 7m/s in an urban environment !
