France – La Plagne – 2024

GLACIERS

A new “Glaciers” gondola lift strategically links Plagne Bellecôte resort to the Glacier de la Chaupe. Comprising two sections that can operate independently, it provides a link between 2,700 m and 3,000 m, whatever the weather conditions. Passengers can enjoy the comfort of EVO 2 XLINE cabins, which can accommodate up to 10 people, as well as exceptional 360° panoramic views.

4 GONDOLA SECTIONS

ON THE BEACH

SAP (Société d’Aménagement de la Plagne), a subsidiary of Compagnie Des Alpes, has chosen POMA to build the 4 gondolas that will link Plagne Bellecôte to Glacier de la Chiaupe, via the Roche de Mio plateau, creating a new backbone for the Plagne ski area. These 4 lifts will eventually replace the historic 6-seater gondolas of Plagne Bellecôte – Belle Plagne – Roche de Mio and Roche de Mio – Glacier de Bellecôte, already built by POMA in 1975 and 1978 on different routes. Work on the 2 gondola sections linking the Roche de Mio plateau to the Glacier de la Chiaupe began in 2022 and will be completed in December 2023. These 2 gondolas will provide access to a magnificent view of the Paradiski ski area, while being disconnected from the Glacier de Bellecôte. SAP, a subsidiary of Compagnie des Alpes, has taken steps to preserve and enhance the Glacier by dismantling all the lift installations on the glacier, in order to protect its eco-system. These 2 gondolas will be equipped with EVO 2 XLINE 10-seater cabins, offering an impressive 360° panorama over the entire route.

Comfort, availability

And innovation

Work on the 2 gondola sections linking Plagne Bellecôte to the Roche de Mio plateau via the Col de Forcle will begin in 2023 and be completed in December 2025. Comfort, Performance, Availability, Innovation and Sustainability are the main challenges of this overall project to redevelop access to the glacier from Plagne Bellecôte. The overall number of pylons will be reduced by 21 compared with existing lines, throughput will be practically doubled, and availability will be ensured by Direct Drive engines on each section. Finally, for the first time, the stations will be equipped with EVO roofs, combining design and eco-performance.

“In the La Plagne ski area, the opening of the Télécabine des Glaciers marked the start of a new era last December. In addition to the modernity of this new facility and the improved comfort for skiers (10-seater gondola with a capacity of 2,700 people/hour), SAP is leading the way in creating a new customer experience in its high-altitude sector. Anchored in the rock at 3,080 m, the top station opens onto the Live3000 area, with its panoramic view of the Vanoise glaciers and its café, le 6ème Ciel. This also makes it easier to enjoy skiing in this area of excellent snow, a discovery appreciated by customers of all abilities. La Plagne is the only French resort to install its own facilities; the Glacier Gondola is the work of SAP Montage, a source of great pride for the teams.
The next stage in the redevelopment of the resort’s “backbone” has already begun with the construction of the new TC 10 at Roche de Mio, which will be operational from December 2025. We’re delighted with our fruitful collaboration with POMA, which means we can now offer a unique lift experience with AEROLIVE, exclusively at La Plagne. This innovation was conceived and developed by our teams for the La Plagne area.”
