The project

Jandri, the backbone of Les 2 Alpes renews itself

The Jandri DMC is the backbone of the vast Les 2 Alpes ski area. It is also a key link in the appeal of the area, transporting users all year round from the center of the resort at 1650 meters to the base of the mythical high-altitude glacier at 3200 meters.

Until now, the DMC has been operating at full capacity in both summer and winter, with remarkable availability. The operating teams and POMA services maintained and upgraded the machine to the maximum until, with over 150,000 hours of operation, its replacement became essential.

For faster, more comfortable and safer travel, SATA made a particularly innovative choice and invested in a superb 2-section tricable detachable ropeway (3S) for the future Jandri. The new 3S lift will increase throughput by more than two-thirds, significantly improving the flow of traffic in this highly frequented area, which accounts for almost the entire ski area and its 410 hectares of slopes.

POMA DELIVERS A SYMBOL OF INNOVATION

AND COLLABORATION

Engineering, Precision, Local Manufacturing, Technology, Design and Comfort – all the ingredients have been brought together to make this project a superb showcase for the region, as well as a standard-bearer for French know-how, since in fact, the project has been awarded to a group of local service providers, led by POMA.

The former DMC Jandri Express had opened 40 years earlier. Its replacement was spread over 2 years in order to preserve the resort’s activity during the works. The new 6.4 km link has just 7 pylons, compared with 17 previously, for better environmental integration.

It is also equipped with a double Direct Drive motorization, to drive the entire system at a speed of 8 m/s. This Group innovation operates without hydrocarbons, reducing electricity consumption by 5%, while limiting noise emissions.

“We are aware of the importance of respecting the land, its inhabitants and its resources. We are also aware of the need to offer our customers the best possible conditions in which to enjoy their activities. SATA Group AEON does not develop for the sake of developing, but draws from its long experience as an innovative operator, the ability to make its mountain areas accessible to all in strict compliance with the environment, the recommendations of the administrative authorities, but also so that this territory lives today and for generations to come. We are a local company, made up of people who live ON and FROM the land. This project will bring together the know-how of our teams and local companies, and will contribute to the economy of our valley and the département, with no fewer than 400 people working on this large-scale project, which is unprecedented and unique in the world. This is how the new Jandri will become the signature of the 2 Alpes ski area for the next 50 years, and we can’t wait to share it with you.”

Project success

The project’s success is based on close collaboration between SATA and the various entities of the POMA Group, each contributing its expertise in specific fields: Comag for tower erection and cable installation, Semer for electrical equipment, Sacmi for station manufacture, and Sigma for cabins. This collective dimension was reinforced by a particularly richly interactive project involving engineers, architects and the project’s various subcontractors.
